Canadian youth at Global Youth Summit

October 11, 2024

A young adult from each of the five regional churches will represent Mennonite Church Canada (MCC) at the Global Youth Summit (GYS) in Germany, May 30-June 1, 2025. GYS 2025 will coincide with Anabaptism’s 500th-anniversary celebrations.

Caleb Yang is a member of Point Grey Inter-Mennonite Fellowship in Vancouver, B.C. Yang says that being Anabaptist “means finding home after a long journey of wandering.”

Liam Kachkar attends First Mennonite Edmonton, Alberta. This selection fulfills a longstanding dream after Kachkar met a young adult who attended a previous GYS.

Shenyce Buhler is a member of Nutana Park Mennonite Church in Saskatoon, Sask. where she volunteers as a worship leader. Danika Warkentin is a member of Home Street Mennonite Church in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Warkentin is intrigued to participate in discussions with others passionate about the church’s future.

Laura Rodriguez Reyes is a member of First Mennonite Church in Kitchener, Ontario, and MCC’s official MWC Young Anabaptists delegate. Born in the global south, she feels a duty to use her privilege and education to support those who lack opportunities.
